Blog Assignment 6- Native American Treatment and Removal in the 1800s
Over the past unit we have studied and discussed how the United States moved from being a country of 13 states along the Atlantic Coast to a vast area reaching all the way to the Pacific Ocean. We looked at the explorers that traveled the new vast land and finally today we talked about the settlers and pioneers that risked everything to move West. Unfortunately the expansion and settlement was was not positive for everyone. The Native Americans were often moved from their land onto reservations in areas like Oklahoma. Those who resisted were forced by the military and many many died from disease. Read pages 368-369 in your book. It gives an example of this when in 1830 President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act to make the Cherokee Tribe leave Florida. For this blog assignment you need to write at least six sentences summing up what happened to the Cherokee on the pages you read, write how it makes you feel, and then tell me how things could have been done differently.

In 1830, President Jackson signed a law called the Removal Act, that forced the Cherokee tribe and others to move away from their land. President Jackson moved them to and area called the Indian Territory. It was west of the Mississippi River, in what is now Oklahoma. This makes me feel sad because the Cherokee taught the ways of life to white settlers, and helped a lot of people. Some of the thing's that i would of done differently is not of moved them off of their own land, because they found that land and taught people a lot of ways of life.
ReplyDeletePresident Jackson signed a treaty called the Indian Removal act in 1830. It forced indians off their own land to the Indian Territory (Oklahoma). The Cherokee and many other tribes were forced off their land.I feel bad because they had their indian camps already set up. Also they had to take there lives and everything they own to a place they didn't evan know. I think they should of let them stay and we could of started a community where they went. brooks
ReplyDeletePresident Jackson signed a treaty called the Indian removal act in 1830. The act forced the Cherokee Indians to move to Oaklahoma. I feel bad because the Indians were already settled there, but then the white moved them off of their own land. I also feel bad because they weren't use to the Oklahoma territory so then they had to use diffrent resources. Some of the things i would of done diffrently is, i would of let them stay on their land, but not of let them have as much of the lands that they use to own. The Indians also should of been treated farily.

President Jackson signed the Indian Removal act in 1830. The indians were forced to leave their land and homes. I don't think that this was fair treatment for the indians. We should have not made them leave their land. It would have been better to share the land.

In 1830 President Jackson signed the Idian Removal Act.So then that forced the Chrokee Indians to leave there lands.I I feel bad for the indians because they had to move west . Also everything they own to move somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteThey had to walk 800 miles through even in bad wheather.Though every four indians would die on thier way to the indian territory.jordan
The Indian Removal Act was signed by President Jackson in 1830. This law forced the Cherokee Indians to move from California to Oklahoma. Soon after President Jackson signed the law the gold rush started which brought more settlers to California. The Cherokee protested the settlers moving into their land. But in 1836, President Van Buren sent the United States Army to move the Cherokee Indians west which is called the Trail of Tears. I think this law was unfair because the Cherokee Indians were there first. President Jackson should have told the Americans to not settle in the Cherokee Indian's territory. Kendall Chapman

The Cherokees lost their way of living. THey were not given a chnace to work with the settlers and maybe be a community. They should have been respected that they were here first. SG
ReplyDeleteIn 1830, Mr. Jackson signed a bill that said all Indians mustmive to a different area. This area was called the Indian Territory. IT was located to the west of the Mississippi River and in modern day Oklahoma. The Cherokee Chief want to court over their lands. He won. Andrew Jackson declined the law.
